This TunnelBear VPN review is based on price, features, reliability, speed and customer service. The purpose of VPN Rankings is to help people find the best VPN that fits their needs by allowing people to share real-life experiences and opinions, good or bad, about VPNs they use or have used.
TunnelBear is a fairly new VPN (founded in 2011) based in Toronto, Canada. While they have a very strong and humorous marketing strategy, they also offer a high quality service. They have servers in 12 countries, all of which provide speeds that should be enough for most browsing activities, including HD video streaming.
One of the most appealing features about TunnelBear is their “Little Bear” plan which is completely free, but has a 500MB download limit. However, if you tweet about them you can get an extra 1GB download limit. Then they have a monthly plan for $6.99/mo and a yearly plan for $4.16/mo. They accept all major credit cards, PayPal and BitCoin.
TunnelBear is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices and they have a browser extension for Chrome on Windows, OSX, Linux, and Chrome OS. They provide two VPN protocols, OpenVPN and IPsec. Unfortunately P2P is not allowed. They do not log any information about the applications, services or websites their users use when connected to TunnelBear.
TunnelBear VPN is a solid product that is easy to use with a handful of useful features. However, they are missing a few major features that we like to have in a VPN, such as P2P sharing and the lack of customization (protocols, ports, encryption options). However, if those are not important to you, their free service is pretty hard to beat.
If you use or have used TunnelBear, let us know about your experience with them in the comments below.
